Is Ukritic.com a safe affiliate marketing platform?

2

Let me start by by saying that I am a little bias when it comes to Ukritic as I am the developer and co-founder of the community.

With that said I would like to take some time to explain what has gone into developing the community and the measures that have been taken to ensure that the community is a safe place to post Product Reviews.

During our planning and design phase of Ukritic.com the sole focus was on making sure that the content posted is utterly unique and relevant content. From start to finish the review posting process is designed to maximize your SERP potential and give you all of the tools needed to post amazing high quality product reviews.

Some of the major features that are included in the process to make your review writing process easier are as follows:

Layout & Design

The review templates that are available when writing your review are designed by some of the top affiliate marketers on the web today. The design concepts are 100% focused on maximizing conversion and click through rates.

Ad placements are UN-obtrusive and the potential customer is directed to a variety of outbound links which point to a internal redirect link that directs to your own affiliate link.

Moderation

The moderation process for new reviews and members has been designed to ensure only unique high quality reviews are allowed to be posted to Ukritic community. To assist in this process we have included a per-moderation process that will inform you while creating your review of elements that need to be tweaked for approval.

Moderation is very strict for new members as we consider it to be a training process, our philosophy is simple – “Make sure that each and every one of our members has all of the information required to write quality reviews that can convert to sales”.

Community based SEO

This is one of the greatest strengths of the Ukritic community, while the founders of Ukritic are ensuring that the Ukritic domain is protected and only truly white hat methods of promotion are utilized to grow the domain.

Each member that promotes or shares their krits through social channels is effectively helping to build the profile of all pages on Ukritic. So what that means to you is that each member that actively promotes their krits is adding to the overall search engine profile of the entire ukritic.com domain.

As an active member of Ukritic you will be sharing in leveraging the power of a community based review network. Everything that the other members of the community does to help the profile is actually helping every other member.

So why should I promote my reviews if others will get the benefit?

This is a discussion that I have had with quite a few members and it came up often during beta testing. With homepage being the king for internal link profiling we have implemented a ranking and reputation system for members while assigns a score to each and every review in the community. This score is a directly correlated to the members reputation which is related to the review scores.

This complex algorithm rewards members for being a more active member on Ukritic.com thus keeping your reviews closer to the home page in the internal linking profile.

So by safely promoting your reviews and leaving ratings/reviews, voting, and watching other members you are effectively increasing your internal link weight.

What about spam?

I am going to make this as clear as possible – spammy reviews, duplicated content  and non white hat promotional tactics while not be tolerated. Any activity that can be deemed to damage the overall reputation of the Ukritic community will be removed. This can include removal of reviews from the index and or suspension of your Ukritic account.

So the short and skinny of Ukritic.com is that the community was built by legitimate affiliate marketers for legitimate affiliate marketers. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Who makes a good “Kritter”?

Anyone can be an active member of Ukritic that is willing to write comprehensive reviews of products, we provide all of the tools for you to get affiliate links and insert them into your reviews so you can earn commission from sales generated by click through traffic.

Be rest assured however that is you are looking for a platform to post weak article content or overly hyped scam products you may as well find another site! Low quality spam type content will never see the light of day.

Why use Ukritic instead of building my own site?

The answer is simple here folks, Ukritic has done all of the hard work for you – there is no need to design and build your own website. All of the SEO is already done, you will be posting to an already authoritative site. Instead of starting from scratch you are starting your review network ahead of the curve.

Let’s say you wanted to test out a new market without the risk of building out a dedicated website – why not use Ukritic as your test bed for traffic and conversion. Hey you might just find that Ukritic templates convert so well you might decide to just skip building out your own site – Ukritic.com is just that easy.

Well I have gone on long enough about this community why don’t you just give it a try and see what happens. There is nothing to lose it is completely FREE to join.

Internet Marketing is it real or just Hype?

0

It today’s internet world we are bombarded with emails, Facebook ads and the like – many of these ads are images of young people standing beside Ferarri’s, Porsche’s and other exotic cars parked in front of Malibu mansions.

The headlines read “Buy my book and I will teach you to make a million dollars on the internet – Just like I did…

I have consistently blown these off as I thought them to be the same as the smooth talking dude on late night TV with there get rich quick offers available for the next 2 hours CALL NOW!.

Well for the most part I think I have saved myself thousands of dollars not buying any of these products. BUT What if these guys are not full of $%^&*@ what if there is money to be made on the internet?

I had never met anyone that is actually making money with these systems and programs until now. Sitting in my office slaving away at client work and desperately trying to drum up more business for my Web Design company was a constant in my life. Sure I was living the good life – no boss, own the company blah blah blah, the good life also comes with a price – COUNTLESS HOURS OF SLAVE WORK!!! It was starting to feel like a regular old job but without benefits or a guaranteed paycheck.

So there I was and in walks this dressed down guy from down the hall (he has seen my flyer in the building offering my services). To make a long story short I take a look at one of his websites (it was honestly a crappy looking site) – and guess what he was one of those guys.

” Look at me I make lots of money on the Internet telling people how to make lots of money on the Internet”

Needless to say I blew the guy off and continued my work – later that day I was heading out and see the guy in the parking lot getting into his $100K car as I walk to my little Honda Civic parked a few cars away.

I decided to strike up a conversation with him and apologize for basically be a skeptical “Prick” when he showed me what he was doing online. What do you know this guy was one of the nicest guys I have ever met – he explains to me that hes used to that kind of reaction from people when he tells them what he does so he avoids talking about his business with people.

We talked for over a hour about what he does and what I do… Later that week we met again (honestly I just wanted to tell him about a project I was working on hoping he might buy a copy for his business!) well he loved the idea and asked if I wanted to do  a Joint Venture to promote it when it was finished.

Out pops my skepticism again I’ve been burned too many times with “Joint Venture” – to date they had all ended up as I work my a$$ off while the other party does jack and keeps asking why there is no money coming in from the project. I asked my self a few simple questions:

  • This time had to be different right?
  • This guy is legit I’ve seen his business work.
  • What do I have to lose business was slow at this time anyway.
  • I had already completed most of the product may as well get this guy to market it.

So my team and I finish off this Affiliate Sales Site building tool with feedback from my now Joint Venture partner in the project. It has been 3 months and we are nearing the end of 2009.

I will refrain from going into all the details pertaining to launching a product like this – needless to say it would have made a GREAT reality TV show.

Finally in early December of 2009 the product launches – we’ll see if this guy is really as good as he says he is or just another opportunist.

My take on the project over the next 2 months more more than the entire sales for my company the year before, on top of that the product stays on the market and makes sales every week creating me a passive income. HOLY S___T I could not believe this was happening!!!

That is now history! – I have since fired or transferred all of my clients and are solely focusing on Internet Marketing and product development. I am making more money that I ever thought I would make.

And yes I got myself a fancy car – Not as fancy as my business partners exotic car. Sorry no pictures of me standing beside it telling you how I can teach you to do the same.

The Moral

Not all of these get rich internet programs are a scam, there are legitimate REAL people out there making money on the internet. Some of them honestly do care about the people that buy their products and help you do what they do.

Keep up to date with my product releases and information about the REAL internet Marketing business fill out the form on the right and get blown away.

The below link is a product I developed that details exactly how I did what I did and just how easy it can be to start an internet business that earns massive profits.

Are you the skeptic like I was or are you ready to take a little risk in your life and reap the rewards! It is totally up to you…

Alienware M17 Review

Scullcap Alienware M17

Scullcap Alienware M17

For years I have dreamed of owning an Alienware laptop, all of my desktop computers are at my office so other than my Fujitsu laptop I don’t have a serious computer for at home. Looking over the Internet I found a sparse number of reviews of the M17 none of which provided any really good information for me the consumer. Alienware is renowned for their customizable configuration so reviewing them can be difficult due to the multitude of configurations available.

The following is my configuration of the M17 for this review.

  • CPU – Core 2 Duo T9550 2.66Ghz
  • GPU – Dual Radeon 3870 Mobility in Crossfire X
  • RAM – 4GB DDR3
  • Screen – WUXGA 17″ 1920X1200
  • HDD – 128GB SSD
  • NIC – Intel Wireless N with MIMO
  • OS – Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Headphones – Alienware TactX
  • Orion Backpack

Total Price including shipping to Canada $3005 US

Ordering and Intial impressions

The order process was not as easy as expected I had to call the billing line because I am outside of the US. After a quick call to validate my credit card information the order was processsed. Much like Dell I was able to follow the build process of the laptop over the 9 phases of assembly, testing an shipping. I opted for the standard Fed Ex shipping offered from Alienware. Shipping was amazingly fast I had the laptop at my door in 2 days. The system comes in a big black box which contained another box with laptop and accessory pack. The M17 itself was covered with an alienware form fitting felt sleeve. The accessory package is top notch from the leather bound instruction manual to the monsterous 3lb power supply. Even the connecting cables for the powersupply are thicker than average and higher quality than found on most laptops. Pulling hte M17 out of the box and opening the felt sleeve is remenat of a scene from 2001 Space Odyssey all that was missing was the music playing in the background. The casing feels like the material the bat suit is made of. Softer to the touch but a hard protective shell. On my M17 I opted for the original SkullCap lid. Opening the lid for the first time it felt substantial and rigid no concerns about flexing even with a 17″ screen. Overall I am quite impressed with the look and feel of the unit. The only minor flaw I can find is that there is a slightly raised section where the indicator lights and quick touch buttons are but its nothing that impeeds the usabilty or cosmetics.

Basic Usage

It is difficult to call this Laptop a Laptop seeing as you cannot use it on your lap without a hard surface between your legs and the computer. There are some small vents on the bottom of the case that are not to be blocked. At close to 10 lbs the laptop is also a little on the heavy side but overall it is easy to manouver around. Picking it up with one hand is still an option and when you do there is no flexing of the chasis when lifting. I for one am willing to deal with a slightly more bulky laptop to have the security of a rigid chasis that doesn’t feel like it will break if you breathe on it wrong. I expected this beast to sounds like a 747 when I fired it up but was extremely surprised to hear almost nothing. The SSD drive is partially responsible for the lack of noise from the case. Under normal usage conditions you can barely hear the cpu fan making the M17 an extremely enjoyable desktop replacement while maintaining the mobility of a laptop. There are some minor annoyances under regular usage with the ergonomics. The touch pad is not easy to operate but with some tweaking of the sensitivity I’m sure it will be fine. Most of the time I am using a trackball or wireless mouse on the machine anyway so its not of major concern. The front edge of the case has a somewhat hard edge where your arms are resting so if the position of the computer in height relative to your arms is important to avoid serious rubbing of your wrists on the edge when typing. I found that having the keyboard slightly below so that you wrists are slightly bent when typing will aleviate that minor ergonomics problem.

Wireless performance is incredible, When connected wireless to my WRT160N or my WRT300N router I am pulling speeds of up to 1.8MB/Sec on download, when connected to an old WRT54G wireless G router I was pulling sustained 600KB/s to 900KB/s on torrent downloads.

The keyboard responds to soft touches well and is a little on the loud side for a keyboard but I am ok with that I don’t mind a loud keyboard when typing. The port configuration for USB and audio is extremely user friendly with enough ports on the right side of the machine to facilitate you needs. The volume wheel yes wheel no more annoying buttons works smoothly and responsive and is located in a place that is very easy to operate.

Configuration and Installed Software

The OS fired up in quick time comared to other vista instalations. I opted for both the VitaKey fingerprint scanner and the facial recognition biometric data for logging into Windows. I have never been a fan of these kind of devices in the past they have not been reliable. It has been a week now and between the fingerprint scanner and the facial recognition it is easy and faster getting into windows than using the traditional password input. The fingerprint scanner sometimes take a couple of swipes but in decent lighting conditions the facial recognition usually logs me in before I get to the second finger swipe. Much to my surprise and delight there was NO demo software in the windows installation when I fired up windows. No trials of office, no wildtangent games, no antivirus trial bugging you. All that was on the computer was an installation of power DVD and required device drivers. Finally a computer that didn’t need hours of software tweaking before I could be happy using it. So far so good, I have opted to keep this machine pretty clean and run alot of open source software here is the list of apps that I have installed and are running for productivity.

HTML Editing – Notepad ++
Image Editing – GIMP
Browser – Firefox
Media Player – VLC for video and Media Player for Music. I really dont use Media Center for anything as I hate it with a passion.
Email and Messaging – Windows live essentials

Thats about it for the software portion of this review I haven’t chosen an office suite yet but will most likely use open office. The one bit of advanced configuration required is to reconfigure the soft touch quick launch buttons above the keyboard. See below for how to configure the buttons on the M17, I have listed my configuration for the buttons. You can copy and paste the entire code block and save the file with extension .reg then double click the file to merge the contents into the registry.

Gaming Performance & Benchmarking

On the desktop there was a shortcut to a file named ‘My Alienware PC Information’ the path to the file “C:\Windows\System32\Alienware\My PC Information.XML”. In this file is all the information about my laptop including all of the benchmark runs and it is formatting like an Area 51 secret document. Below you will find the results from the burn in benchmark tests run on my specific machine. The rest of the document contains specific details about the components and drivers.

Burn-In/Benchmarks

3DMark 2006
3DMark Score- 13,081.00 3DMarks
SM2.0 Score- 5,712.00
HDR/SM3.0 Score- 7,477.00
CPU Score- 2,410.00
Game Score- 0.00 Points
SM2.0 Graphics Tests
GT1 – Return To Proxycon- 46.22 FPS
GT2 – Firefly Forest- 48.99 FPS
CPU Tests
CPU1 – Red Valley- 0.77 FPS
CPU2 – Red Valley- 1.20 FPS
HDR/SM3.0 Graphics Tests
HDR1 – Canyon Flight- 87.19 FPS
HDR2 – Deep Freeze- 62.36 FPS
Unreal Tournament 3 Demo
Average FPS- 59.31 FPS
Time Spent Over 30 FPS- 99.76 percent of total benchmark time was spent above 30 FPS

Pretty impressive results in a laptop I have to say. I quickly installed steam and downloaded my instal for Drakensang and Unreal Tournament 3 both games played with high framerate at full detail 1920X1200 resolution. I am more than happy with the results of the gaming performance. As far as the noise level when gaming, well what can you expect from a highpower machine playing games you need to have some serious cooling power to keep things running stable. After playing Drakensang for 4 hours straight there is no issues with the laptop getting overly hot and or reduced performance.

Conclusions

Pros: Amazing customer experience, Magnificant machine, Great gaming performance, Very quiet under normal usage conditions.

Cons: Hard edge on the front of the case is a little rough on the wrists under certain operating conditions, Bulky power supply.

I am that guy….

1

You know how everyone has ‘A GUY’ that knows a guy that can get something done, or has the answer to a question?

Well I have come to a realization in my life that I AM THAT GUY! When I was a kid my parents used to call me a know it all because I had an answer for everything and was able to solve most problems. I always looked at everything and wanted to figure out how to make it better than it was. Through my years I have never really owned anything that I left stock. Always tweaking, modifying or editing things to make them better and function the way I wanted them to.

As I got older and began working different jobs I was always able to look at process and procedure and figure out a more effecient way of doing things. I was never shy about giving myt opinion or answering a question for people. Most of the time I was just ignored when I gave my opinion on a topic or a situation. If not ignored many people just said things like “What do you know?”, “It is what it is!”, “Your too young, in a few years you will see that this is the best way.”

A few years have past and I have said the words “I told you so…” far too often for my liking, so for a while I stopped giving my input and helping people. The funny think is though that my phone keeps ringing with people asking me if I know how to do something or if I can help them with something. I am that guy that people call when they need an answer to something or to ask if I have a connection. I have come to welcome the fact that in my years I have learned a lot about many things. I am not a specialist in anything but a “jack of many trades” as some would call it.

Being in the computer industry I have people constantly calling me or asking for assistance in specific areas or to figure out how to do something. There are so many people that I meet in my business that initially don’t beleive the amount of knowledge I have and the ability I have to design/redesign procedures to make them more efficient.

Other than tooting my own horn of course I have decided that to help unload this knowledge and share it with people I will start using this blog as a place for anyone to ask me a question about anything and I will offer up my opinion or solution to a problem. If you have a question or a problem that you need a solution for then feel free to leave a comment on this post and I will try to offer up my solution. Take my feedback, use my advice or just ignore me it really does not matter but the offer is there!

Just me trying to give back a little to the world…

Web designers that Rip off clients

3

You know, sometimes there are times things need to be validated by members of the industry and this is one statement that I need to validate. Being the President, Founder and Lead Designer for a successful Multimedia company I have to get a few things off my chest.

“Web designers” are everywhere, anyone with a copy of front page and the internet are calling them selves web designers, seeking out clients to make a living from selling their services. Everyday while surfing the web I come across FrontPage built sites with stick on animated gifs and bloated Microsoft html code. There was obviously no thought to the end user or design principle while these sites where in development. Open new word document >slap in some stolen gifs from the web > save as html and WHAMMO you are a web designer. NO YOU ARE NOT.

Too many times I meet with a prospective client and they show me a horrible site that they paid obscene amounts of money for and I mean obscene, some of these sites are 3 times what my company charges and they look like they were done by a no talent hack in the basement of grandma’s house. Seriously how do you sleep at night ripping people off like that. My rates are not cheap but my portfolio is large and I have a steady flow of referral business coming in. I even have repeat customers that have multiple sites. No wonder there are so many clients that I meet that get visibly sullen when I show them my company portfolio and quote them on a new site. How can I blame them? They paid more than double what I am quoting for the mess they have now. Many of these poor people convince themselves that they have a great site because their “Web Guy” told them that it was a great site and they got a good deal on it.

I spent years in school and training in art to do what I do. My credentials include a Multimedia Diploma with Honors, Certificate of Business Admin. Marketing and Sales Major, Sales management experience, 15 years of art training and practice. During my training I spent time learning about Humane Interface design, optimization, scalability, graphic design, color palettes and more. These are some of the many tools that a true web designer has in his or her arsenal. I am a registered Adobe client using the latest in graphic design software, my companies programming principles are strict and clean and we write our own code. (Some times we write out code in notepad just to make sure we don’t get reliant on WYSIWYG editing.) We know where the code editor is in Dreamweaver and understand the differences between different versions of IE, Firefox, Opera. We understand color wheels, beta testing, bandwidth, image optimization. This list could go on forever I think you get the point.

I am going to explain what a true web designer/developer does when dealing with a new client. Before I start on any project for a client I have a FREE (YES I said FREE) consultation meeting with the prospect. Instead of spitting out some arbitrary number to them and telling them what their site will do. I have a full interview with the client and educate them to the benefits of a website. Take the time to introduce them to new technologies available for websites such as blogs, news, CMS, flash etc. After this meeting which usually take 1hr or more, I thank the client for their time and let them know I will work out a quote for them and email it later that day. If the client insists that I ballpark a quote. I will ask a few more questions and ballpark a range based on other sites that I have developed that are similar. Once the quote is approved I layout a project guideline for the client with milestones and payment schedules at each milestone reached. This helps keep things scheduled and gives the client piece of mind throughout the process.

To those guilty parties out there, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You are preying on people that want to grow their business or are just starting out. All you are accomplishing is helping these poor clients fail. Before you start demanding exorbitant amounts of money for your services try going to school and taking a few art classes, at least now you will do your clients and your reputation justice. To anyone that is out there looking for web sites PLEASE do some research and make sure that your choice in designer is based off their experience and previous work. If they have no work to show you then you are well within your right to ask for a mock-up before signing on to have them launch your web site project.

Us multimedia people are not all rip off artists and if you find the right one for your business you could be developing a long standing relationship for the better of both parties involved. As mentioned earlier I have many repeat clients and referrals making it unnecessary to advertise. No newspaper ads, no billboards, no mass emailing. My advertising consists of a small link on clients sites that allow it, linking to my main company site. My phone rings from new clients and 9 out of 10 times it is because they got my info from someone who I did work for.

Here are some other posts that give prospective clients some insight into the minds of web developers.

choosing-a-web-designer
artist-vs-programmer

My company site is located at www.mk2solutions.com if you click clients there are links to work that I have done. For other samples you can always contact me through the contact form as I have lots of sample layouts etc that are archived. As busy as we are I am always open to meeting a new prospective client to discuss their project. Worst case I will put a team together to develop it while I oversee each phase to insure the level of quality is at a level that I accept.

Golfing is like riding a bike.

1

Well after a 3month hiatus from playing this spectacular game that I enjoy so much I returned to the course today. Expecting high scores and lost balls I went into the round with a clear mind and no scoring expectations.

I step up to the first tee and take a few practice swings. Everything feels great, just like riding a bike. I teed up the ball and made my first swing. It was clean and solid just a little right but a safe play.

My game continued like this for most of the round with only the odd bad shot. I was a quite happy with my self until about the 8th hole when things were falling apart. During a wait at number 11 I was thinking about my swing and realized that I had started to speed up my back swing and was loosing control of the club face coming through the ball.

I slowed my back swing down again and I was flying true and straight, even getting a little draw with the irons. I guess the lesson here is after being away from the game for so long you tend to be a little more cautious when you step out again . That caution is what allows your body to swing correctly without having your ego and your brain get in the way.

Now if only I could keep myself from trying to kill the ball I would be able to break 80. As my confidence increases so does my swing speed and exponentially my accuracy goes down. On a side note a smooth clean swing will always produce a longer and straighter shot than a wild full out swing. Well at least at my playing level it will.

Golf Lesson: No matter how well you are playing or how much you want that extra 10 yards, always keep you swing smooth and easy. 10-20Yards shorter but in the fairway is better than even 30 yards extra and unplayable. Don’t let you confidence and your mind get in the way of a natural smooth swing.

Individualism – A Life Lesson

3

I don’t normally rant publicly about things that bother me, usually I just wander aimlessly about the house and yell at inanimate objects. Frustrated at the idiocity* of the human race. However this particular thing that bothers me about people is worthy of posting so here goes.

*Idiocity – YES I know this word is not found in the English dictionary. Read the following as I believe it should be entered into both the medical journals and dictionary.

id-i-oc-ity /idiocity/ Pronunciation Key – Show Spelled Pronunciation[id-ee-uh-sit-ee]
-noun

  1. the disease which cause people to be idiots.
  2. Psychology. a person of the lowest order in a former classification of mental retardation, having a mental age of less than three years old and an intelligence quotient under 25.

[Origin: Derived from the -noun IDIOT idiocity is a mental disorder that plagues a large percentage of the general population. Relief from the symptoms can be found in education, listening and study however there is no cure beyond that of common sense]
-Synonyms 1. fool, half-wit; imbecile; dolt, dunce, numskull.
